Def needs more listens. They're frighteningly consistent, though sometimes they touch on being a bit too methodical.

Not quite sure I follow you in that statement, if you'd care to elaborate?

They write mostly incredible songs, but on occasion it feels like they go into autopilot a bit and though there's nothing wrong with the song, it feels a bit too safe.

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you, it does make sense, although I don't share your view :]

Having said that, these guys playing it safe still dicks on most bands. Doubt they'll ever release anything worse than 3.5.

Now that I'll agree with!

yeah i kind of agree. i love the national but even as great as they are i feel like they could be even

better if they got rid of the conventional song structures and wrote some more drawn-out songs instead

of keeping it in the three to five minute range. they should be beyond such limitations.

Fuck song structures, this album touches on the fragilities of love and the human psyche and is the most personal of all National albums, although HV certainly comes close this is their best for me.

i actually quite like Heavenfaced but the problem is it's wedged between Sea and TITLT which i'd much rather listen to. Fireproof is my least favourite National track since 2003. And the closer is pretty I guess but i don't feel it progresses anywhere.

I love Hard to Find, but I tend to find Fireproof the "least good" on this as well

really wish it ended with Pink Rabbits cos it's so emotionally heavy and final. i agree with Grouse about those three tracks.

faves here are Don't Swallow The Cap, Sea of Love (which i only recently came around on), Humiliation, This Is The Last Time and Pink Rabbits. Pink Rabbits is phenomenal. sounds so sad and pretty much every line is quotable. even if the rest of the album was just underarm farts and queefs, it'd be worth copping for that song alone.

i kinda see pink rabbits as the true closer and hard to find as like an epilogue or something idk that's just how it FEELS when i LISTEN to it
