This is pretty cool, but I miss the ambiance the old stuff had.

The older stuff has so much more epic buildup.

Build-up, OK. I get you on that. The more straightforward post-black sound there heavily utilizes that sort of thing. I'll take how experimental this sounds over the buildups of their older stuff, though.

According to my Ipod, I've listened to the album 9 times so far. It's better than White Tomb, better than anything they've ever done. These 3.5s are really disappointing. White Tomb isn't a 3 - these rating don't add up.

Kinda sounds like the post rock influences were replaced by a kid with ADD who likes power electronics and sludge

Totally disagree man. I don't rate any of AoP's other stuff precisely for the reasons you outline,

but this one I think really transcends most of the mulch that makes up 'post-black metal'. Obviously

it isn't desperately original, but no metal band around today is so that is completely beside the

point.

Before you say "you haven't let it sink in yet", I've had the record for nearly two months now so,

yes, I have! Can understand it's not going to be everyone's favourite thing but I really do love it.

Also my usage of the term "real metal" was intended to be slightly sarcastic, for the record.

Thank you for taking the high road and backing yourself up ; ).

White Tomb was good but it was inconsistent. Earth as a Womb was excellent, Earth as a Tomb was pretty good, Watchers Restrained was poop, and Gentian Truth was also pretty excellent. So it was 3/4 good, 1/4 waste of time.

I like Mammal so much more than this, White Tomb is ok but like it better than this too.

Mammal is way more consistent than this.
