HIMophobia- similar to homophobia, fear of looking like gay if you don't bash HIM cause they always talk about love, and that is so gay, I mean- boy loves girl... so gay

They don't change the subject cause it's who they are, no need to indulge anyone. All big bands have unique sound that stays solid over decades, and usually you can recognize band in few second of a song. Changing to please the audience and not staying true to themselves would make them sellouts.

It's not about how metal you are, it's about who you realy are. And some people loves them for what they are.

I just started listening to HIM in late 2012 and I've pretty much enjoyed everything I've heard so far. The first song I heard was Heartkiller so I kind of started with their newer stuff. Anyway, I'm enjoying this album so far, just starting to learn all the lyrics, fun to sing along to.

Like I said before, I like this band & dont care for their general crowd

They aren't as big with the general groupie fanboys anymore anyways, well in my area, i dont know anywhere else so I can't argue with you guys, maybe they get shoved down people's throats somewhere else

I didn't even know they had such a undesirable fan-base...like I said, I came in around the end of 2012 after hearing Heartkiller somewhere

Here's an official stream of the new album for anyone who is interested:

The two comments from HIM-fans were fun to read to. Especially the more offensive one. I'm not sure if the commenter made it out of the review but I do indeed enjoy HIM; it's just this joy gets old incredibly fast beacuse there is no progression in music whatsoever.

And for a heads-up: they became sell-outs with the new Millenium, their music has been HUGELY saleable and radio-friendly since 1999. And they did a good job in doing this sort of pop-music, seeing the fan-base that still exsists. But one can't craft the same hit over and over again. You will eventually get tired of them, I can promise you that.

As for the subject of change:

"They don't change the subject cause it's who they are, no need to indulge anyone"

Now that's a blunt statement. That's exactly what they're doing: indulging the fanbase. They know

perfectly that their fans won't have anything from HIM that doesn't sound like HIM: and so they play

along. It's creative death, really.

You know, if a song is good, then a song is good. HIM has their fair share. I'm not saying I'm a fanboy by any means, but some of their songs are good. As far as them not changing the template, I have mixed feelings on that subject for any band. Nobody gives AC/DC any crap (and not I am not trying to put HIM in the same ballpark so don't start stoning me). It just seems to me that fans cry foul when a band or artist changes the template. On the other side of that coin, fans also seem to cry foul when an artist sticks to the template. If Valo and Co. are content and proud of the art they create, then good for them. As long as they stay true to themselves, then who are we to say. If we don't like it, we move along and listen to something else. That said, yes, this album sounds pretty much like most of their stuff. I'm not miffed... If I don't like it, I change the tunes... Maybe put on some Ready An' Willin' or Come and Get it era Whitesnake perhaps...

But the album is great in my opinion & I listen to very different types of music; I might go as far as saying it has grown on me to be perhaps my favorite by them, it is put together really well, almost like a concept album, well-rounded.

What is it with guys being sanctimonious about music? I think think Tears On Tape is a damn good album. You can look at any band that has been around for a few years and whinge about how they haven't progressed musically, same guitar riffs, same lyrics, same sound blah blah blah. Then you get bands that change their sound and get slated by the die-hard fans. HIM still hit the spot for a massive fan base and although, on occasion, there has been some material that hasn't maybe been as well received, I think this album is true to their sound and I am looking forward to seeing them play live. So, ok, shoot me down in flames guys, and btw to the guys who don't even like the band, what the f*@^ are you reading their reviews for?!

so people shouldn't read reviews for bands they don't like? like they're not allowed to?

wtf sense does that make?

See, I don't like Justin Bieber, so consequently, I have better things to do with my time than read reviews on whatever he churns out and make snarky, negative comments.

Not saying they're "not allowed" just can't see the point.

Misquish,

Not changing your sound for a few years is more than ok, it's conventional and crucial for developing a following: but when your sound doesn't change for over ten years, you're just milking a dehydrated cow. I honestly was looking for redeeming qualities in this record for I still dig their older stuff but it pains me to see musicians waste potential for progress.
