Fuck the Timberlake album. This was one of the best albums of last year and I'm still loving it.

"did he lose himself in the music? the moment he owned it??

this summery reads as a negative, thought this was going to be a negative review you should reconsider"

But, dude, I DON'T EVEN MIND picking up these pieces! In fact, the process is pleasurable for me!

way more forward-thinking, nowhere near as fleshed out.

This, but I'd still probably rate it higher. Something about this album sounding half-finished/lacking denouements makes it deeper. He articulates the malaise of growing up in our cultural overload very well, and does so without even saying as much. The character sketches, the channel-surfing motif (abrupt mood shifts, extended time devoted to melodrama quickly dispensed when satisfaction has been obtained (Pyramids->Lost is best/worst pairing of any album stretch in 2012)), the melodies! It makes the album all very compelling and surprisingly unfussy, considering how many styles he jumps even in a matter of minutes. He speaks with the language of his peers but the soul of his elders.

i like it better than 20/20 as well. this has really grown on me since it came out, when i sort of dismissed it as incomplete at the time. i think that he may be saved mostly by the channel-surfing concept, but that was certainly enough to give this a sense of unity that i didn't really pick up at first. 20/20 might break some ground in the pop sphere, but it isn't the personal album this is. JT simply isn't going to connect with me on the level ocean does.

Great review dude, good to see you putting that staff status to good use

I really don't care for the album though. I like Frank, I just think the stellar tracks on here are few and far between
