But this is just like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, only with crappy vocals and not as interesting guitar melodies. So, yeah, I'd rather listen to In Flames forever than just sub in something that's worse for the sake of... nothing.

Early In Flames was great, but already showing the terrible predictability and formulaicness of melodeath. This is never striking with dark tranquillity in particular

Soilwork can't really be compared to DT or even old in flames. Their sound is more thrash inclined than any of the former two

I wonder what genre you mean, projectfreak. the only melodeath band with bad lyrics I know is omnium gatherum. Soilwork is melodic thrash/death to me, in principle at least (cough stabbing the drama cough).

Making melodeath in the 2010's is, almost universally, an exercise is pointlessness. Without In Flames (and Dark Tranquillity) there would be no Soilwork, Darkane, Scar Symmetry etc. On top of that, the modern bands have really taken the genre nowhere in particular. So I just don't see the point. Listen to something good.

I never liked In Flames, they depress me for some reason.

Man Made God is pretty good, though.

My favorite melodeath bad will be always at the gates. In flames is badass until Clayman, then they went downhill, still I enjoy a bunch of their newes albums like come clarity.

For those familiar with Devin Townsend’s Ocean Machine release, ‘The Windswept Mercy’ is definitely in the same style but with the Soilwork treatment.

I think Devin worked with them on a few albums and really developed the clean vocals (which I personally enjoy). It's no coincidence that Devin's sound would run into Soilwork's.

This shit is so much better than most of their other stuff that I don't think if I'll ever listen to anything except this album from Soilwork. Well, maybe the first 3 albums will be an exception, but not anytime soon.

Dude, there first 6 albums crush this.

but yea soilwork overall are pretty average

Hell no.
