Yeah Earthshine, Nocturne, Sweet Miracle, and others have awesome riffing. Sweet Miracle and The Stars Look Down have great use of acoustic guitar too.

I don't like the remix. Overproducing Rush gives very gross results for me, listen to the drumming in the first seconds of Ghost Rider: the original sounds much more organic and rich.

I suggest to search the web for the unofficial "unmasters" version, it's a more dynamic version of the original.

Super late to the party on this one. I recall buying VT on release, popping in the disc player in my car, and shutting it off halfway through with a splitting headache. I remember thinking that my favorite band of all time had finally had it. With no sign of the crisp, clean music I had always loved, I relegated that disc to the "pile of shit I probably won't ever listen to again" and I moved on, focusing more on bands like Porcupine Tree when I got the urge to listen to prog.

I kind of forgot about the record after that.

I was checking over my Rush ratings here on Sputnik the other day, and I say VT sitting there with a pretty low rating, so I popped into the thread. It was at this point that I ran across the info about a remix that had been released many years later, so I decided to give that a shot. Lo and behold, this is actually a pretty fantastic collection of songs. Been jamming this for a few days now, and I like it a whole lot more.

That said, I am still not over the moon for the opening track, which I see may people love for whatever reason. Musically, it's pretty awesome, but I just don't dig the vocal on that one. Maybe it will grow on me, who knows.

Im not crazy for OLV either

They played it quite a bit live as well which was a little bit of a bummer for me. Had good visual to compliment it tho...

That was usually my cue to go grab a beer and hit the bathroom. Can't go any other time during a Rush show!

How did nearly every Rush album from Presto to the end end up having such subpar production? Especially considering how pristine all of their 70s and 80s stuff sounds (including the non-Terry Brown stuff)?

Like I get botching one or two, but it just happened over and over and over...
