Is this more akin to The RedShift or to New World Shadows?

Only thing bogging my rating is the vocals, I'm not a fan at all. They don't seem to fit the music very well, which is a shame because the music itself is amazing.

Madcreator, what makes normal singing so good compared to death growling? Its all about preference, no
one sings naturally, its learned. It's what others before deemed to be acceptable and good. It has no
basis on what "singing" or vocals should sound like.

he's ignorant. who's to say singing is the only way to show emotion?

that said, I'm not a fan of the vocals here. they sound very forced. the album itself has some forgettable moments here and there which is a shame become this could've been amazing

"Death metal makes me laugh. They ruin their own music with crappy vocals. That song would be awesome without the puking singer."

lol

Great review, pos'd. I disagree with the "joyful" aura though. I think OG's music like most other Finnish melodeath sounds rather somber.

Oh and about their vocalist's vocals: they've never been the strong point of this band. I mean his growls are passable, but his cleans aren't. As for singing vs growling/bm shrieks/screaming, I absolutely love both of these forms of expression in general.

Wow dude. It's called DEATH METAL. If you can't handle it gtfo.
Seriously. It's what people like, including myself, and if you're too much of a pussy to handle it go listen to Linkin Park

I love death metal. (I mean, *LOVE*. If death metal was a teddy bear, I'd... nevermind.)

That said, this album is probably the canonical example of when *NOT* to adopt death metal vocals. Seriously. Could they fit any less? Excluding vocals, the music is melodically happy to the edge of sappy. Which would be acceptable, except the band has seen fit to couple stilted sappiness with Be'lakor-style gutter growls. It's an unholy matrimony and an arguable giant misstep for an otherwise decent album.

I just don't get the rave reviews. Perhaps this is a grower. I'll definitely give it a few more spins. So far, however: I. Am. Not. Impressed.

btw leycec, you say you're not impressed with this album, yet you have it a 3.5 which implies you think it's great... sup with that?

I don't see how the vocals are a problem. They aren't amazing, I've heard better low growls, but far
from being bad. They fit well, and I really like the parts were some of the clean singing comes in
("New Dynamic" and "In the Rim"). The music compliments the agonizing gutter growl, that creates
almost of a beauty and the beast feeling.
