I know and like Riverside a lot, and I must admit that I'm surprised with your conservative reactions.
Riverside have just shown their flexibility and awareness of progressive spirit. Don't you hear the obvious references to the classics? IMO, Opeth is a far-fetched association. To me it's Deep Purple, The Doors and Porcupine Tree that seem to be the key influences. One could say it's like reinventing the wheel, but for me SONGS has revamped 'oldschool' prog-rock and resulted in LOTS of memorable album moments.
Riverside at its best.

Well referencing the classics more often than not leads to the album not feeling very refreshing. The album isn't risky enough, it's a solid album, but after the roller coaster ride that was ADHD I expected them to experiment with their sound more drastically. Feel Like Falling is refreshing, especially the guitar tones and effects, and there are other refreshing moments scattered throughout but overall the band hasn't really pushed any boundaries like I expected them to. Possibly on the next album, God knows how long the wait will be for that.

I really wish they had recorded a full-length acoustic version of Feel Like Falling. It would've been even better than the heavier version.

But then it wouldn't have that guitar tone and effect.

I just love Duda's voice in the coda, if only it weren't so short! Still awesome though.

Yeah, but his voice is pretty much business as usual on Coma, unless there's something I missed

The melody just sounds better to me with an acoustic backing even though I still really like the main version. It's partly how good the transition is from Escalator Shrine that makes it stand out to me as well, since it's basically an outro to that song.

Plus I just prefer the softer, more delicate-sounding side of Duda's voice to his more "aggressive" style even though he does that well too.

Yeah I love coda as well, just listened to it and remembered why you loved his vocals. His vocal's aren't suited for the aggressive delivery. There's a certain range where he's comfortable and thats the softer one. He's not very diverse but his delivery is good.

I love both Feel Like as well as Coda, it's great to hear both facets of the song
