agree, another thing that drives me nuts on here is peoples ignorance to the historical context of the music, I make many arguments that say, yes it might be boring to you now, but when it came out it was rev. and responses back are it sucks now though, maddening

Don't get me started on that one. I'm pretty sure it's the sort of thing I said when I was 13.

I think I appreciate Masters of War mostly for it's innovation and the historical context. As a song it's nowhere near one of my favourite Dylan songs, lyrically or otherwise.
|
| |
it's definitely a contender for one of my all-time favorite Dylan songs, but to each their own ;) I just wish the other tracks on freewheelin' were as strong as that one
feel free to read my post on masters of war too if you're interested

I'd still include Masters of War among the 5 or 6 great/classic songs on Freewheelin'. It's a shame Freewheelin' is so inconsistent.
Will do, man.

freewheelin isn't that inconsistent, however the title of the album should tell you how the album will be.
if anybody gets a chance listen to the frewheelin outtakes album, do it many great songs that would make artist careers that he just throws out, ballad of Emmitt Till is fantastic and historically significant

Slightly underwhelmed by this to be honest. I've been kinda led to believe this'd be, like, the Great Hidden Gem in Dylan's discography, but it's just pretty good. Anyone else feel like this?

I mean, all I'm saying is it's no Nashville Skyline

lol
I say check again, the bass line running through the whole album is awesome, As I went out one morning, Frankee Lee and JP, JWH, drifters escape, Wicked Messenger all great
Nashville may be my least fave of his sixties output, this is supposed to be the buffer between blonde on B and Nashville

It definitely feels like a transitional album between Blonde On Blonde and Nashville Skyline, but to me it also feels like it's kinda missing the things that made those two records great and just sits in a slightly uninspiring middleground. Not that it's at all bad though, I definitely like it quite a bit, it's just not a classic, as far as I'm concerned.

it does have that low key mood to it with no real stand out hits, just good music throughout the whole of the album, to each his own Harry, respect
