Digging: The National - Trouble Will Find Me

From Pitchfork: "Ironically, they've found their sound with the assistance of one of their major forebears: the National's Aaron Dessner performs and contributes songwriting on Hummingbird, and shares production credit with the band while recording with them in his Brooklyn studio. (His brother and bandmate, Bryce, contributed horn arrangements to several songs, too.)"

Gorilla Manor, to me was much more attention grabbing and "accessible" then Hummingbird - lyrics and music alike. On this you can really hear the Dessners' vibe change, but it complements more subdued lyrics and vocals well. It still has the trademark harmonies, percussion, and fun of the last album; yet is toned down and introspective (just not to the point of Berninger's brooding). Perfect balance imo, and I agree that it shows positive growth. Interesting that we disagree about the catchiness compared to GM; I think this one will creep up on me as i figure it out...

Overall good review and awesome album. Too much 1st person for my taste, but the point is made well, and it's nothing like Pitchfork's except for one phrase. Anthracks is calling out 'stupidity" when he obviously read the reviews about as closely as he listened to the albums he's whining about.

I don't know how you can avoid the national thing since it was made in their studio... but The Antlers is at least one toke over the line

This album is absolutely amazing. It takes a few listens before it starts to sink in for some songs, but when it does...man oh man. They really did a fantastic job.

Eh, it's pretty good. Didn't do much at all for me though, which is quite surprising because this should be something I really like.

I don't know what the main reviewer was thinking
This album didn't grab my attention at all. I heard their first album many times and hummingbird barely if ever did. It was pretty bland and a real disappointment.
