Interesting to see that "Azagthoth" became "The Ancient Ones" in B.

Browning was just so intense.

All the trakks on this album became trakks on other MA albums (except for Demon Seed).

Browning's the best. Nocturnus, Acheron and After Death all slay. And he did a sweet guest vocal spot for Illuminati last year.

This and Altars share a thrashiness that was left behind afterwards.

There's an intensity on here that I def don't get on B, C, and certainly not on D.

The key difference is Browning. When he left and was replaced by Sandoval and Vincent, it marked a major change for the band.

Browning wasn't as integral as you think. He wrote a couple of songs here but he mainly just did drums and only did vocals when they had absolutely nobody else to do them. All Morbid slays though, except Domination, which I can't get into.

But the change in drummer affected the band's sound. Plus, when Vincent took up the vocals, he added his deep growls to the mix.

I don't think the change was as major as you're making it out to be though. Tighter drumming and more guttural growls don't really make it a massive or major change, it just made the band sound more cohesive. Browning has always had a bit of a sloppy effect in his music.

I was reading some blog(to ascertain the distinction between various metal genres) that states this album is more Black Metal than Death Metal... listening now to see if this statement has any credence.
