I hear Hatebreed's debut is decent. Has anyone listened to it?

Lisa Loeb and Hatebreed. Just keeping things interesting.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Voivod last week. Diversity is the key.

I've heard it, and personally I'm a bigger fan of their newer albums.

Do mods get to rate albums beyond the constraints of being divisible by .5?

Yes, but there's a glitch right now where if you try to edit the review it reverts back to the old system. Are you a Hatebreed fan (or were you at any point)?

Metal and hardcore does not equal metalcore? Color me confused, I thought that was the definition of the word, lol.

I don't think I have ever heard this band before. Your review has me interested though. Good stuff.

EDIT: I kind of see what you mean now after listening to a few songs.

I never particularly was, so it's not a surprise that I don't like this; it's so one-dimensional to me.

Ha ha... see. It's definitely not what you would call metalcore. If you like this and had never heard it before, then you probably haven't heard Sick of it All either. Try these two albums: Based on a True Story and Death to Tyrants... and the recommended by reviewer area of this review.

It kind of is, but it's a good dimension ;)

I liked what I heard (just listened to the first 3 songs), but the vocals got a little tiring for me after a while. Do they not ever do clean vocals?

I will give it another shot and try the other stuff you said too. Thanks for the recs.

They never do clean vocals... neither does Sick of it All. Instead, maybe start with An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity by Nothingface.

The rapper Necro should be pleased with this album!

Maybe hardcore just isn't for me, Willie. I tried a couple nothingface songs from the album you said. It wasn't bad, but it felt like the guitars just kind of did the same thing over and over without much variation. I also tried a few songs from Sick Of It All's last album and liked it a decent amount. I enjoyed his yell/scream a little more than the Hatebreed guy and the music seemed pretty similar.

I actually like Rise Against quite a bit (mostly for their 2nd, 3rd and 4th albums), but I can't really stand The Unraveling almost solely because of Tim's vocals.

Yeah, it sounds like Hardcore might not really be your thing. It is one of the more one-dimensional styles out there.

Hardcore doesn't have to be one-dimensional. Take The Chariot's One Wing for example. Ah this spaghetti western flourishes.

I might continue to try Sick Of It All though. They kind of peaked my interest. I have heard The Chariot's One Wing also. It was a little more intense than I was used to at the time so I didn't go past the first listen. I could probably handle it now, I have recently gotten into some heavier stuff, like The Dillinger Escape Plan.

I'm still loving this, it has some of the best songs they have written since Supremacy and brings the riffs unlike the self-

titled.
