Only heard the first few tracks of ADHD which were pretty weak. Glad to see this steers away from the metal approach, it didn't seem to be working.

I came close to doing it (maybe later) glad Greg took it up though.

"Poland represent!"

^Hell yeah MetallicOpeth

"Saw it was Riverside, totally knew this was a greg review."

^Hmm. I've never been these guys' huge fan tbh, but this record has definitely won me over.

"Their best since SLS, easily."

^At this point, I'm pretty sure it's my favorite record of theirs... but to each his own.

@OmairSh & IpodMastery:

You can still review it guys.

nice review greg

I was generally dissapointed with the band's latest efforts - they were kinda generic and flat compared to Second Life Syndrome

will probably give a listen though

It took a Riverside review to get the 3 eyed skull sticking it's tongue out to comment :P.

Hahaha dammit man I wet myself listening to ADHD and in a good way (is there any other way?). The musicianship, the compositions, they're just so damn enjoyable and well constructed. Not many people on sput share my opinion. Guess I have a few more eyes than you guys :P.

I thought ADHD was great, if a bit too derivative. Still, like with every record of the band that constantly evolves there's a risk that some fans won't exactly embrace it. ADHD was this kind of record and Shrine... is sort of similar to it. Progressive metal has just been replaced by hard rock and blues. Plus, the return to their art rock roots in some tracks is definitely a good move.

I don't think it's been executed as well as it should've. I think Riverside can compose aggressive and

ambient sections equally well and I don't mind if one album veers more towards one of those 2 facets

but I expect Riverside to do it well, which I don't think is the case so far with this record. Plus

the record being mastered as such a low volume is annoying as is the mix.

I understand what you mean with ADHD but I think it's been composed so well, it feels so coherent and

ech section is more memorable than the last, it's an incredible journey.

It's emotional (as every Riverside album) and well executed. But there's no risk at all on this. ADHD took a lot of risk and it succeded tremendously. This... is too safe...

A 3 will do it for now. I'm on the first spins, I'm sure it will grow on me, but there's no way this is better than ADHD or SLS.

I think I should take a look. Only heard the first three albums by them but nothing really compelled me to get back for more.

First impressions are pretty solid. Hopefully this grows on me a bit more but I generally dig the direction they took here.
