It's not even those dark, demented ass riffs. You hear what is happening on those drums? Insane and they manage to sound grim as fk. Evil stuff.

Then them vocals.

The next 1000 years are oooooooouuuuuuuuuurs!!!!

The riffs in Paragon Belial are the equivalent of taking LSD with Satan. I love that song.

lol the only thing keeping this from a 5 is the production. it's horrible. Are those guitars or static?

This wouldn't be a 5 for me without this production.

The production never bothered me or took away from the music. It's early 90's Darkthrone, can't expect anything too crazy production wise.

People who bitch about the lo fi production are completely missing the point.

I do wish their guitars had a little more oomph to them, though.

It was pretty jarring hearing the decently sounding intro suddenly going into lo-fi black metal for the first time. But yeah production on here is perfect.

"that's the dumbest comment i've ever read, you don't deserve to listen to darkthrone you fucking pussbag"

what other comment would I expect with someone named "OvDeath"?

"production kinda makes this album perfect dude"

I will admit it gives it a creepy and evil atmosphere, but very rarely does bad production work in music's favor.

"People who bitch about the lo fi production are completely missing the point."

bad production =/= bad music. It just takes away part of the experience when the music has no bass at all, and the guitars sound like static. I'd rather the kick drum have some punch to it and the guitars to... sound like fucking guitars? The album is fantastic, but the production is slightly off putting in my case.

the production is just so cavernous yet cacophonous, if that makes sense. it really sounds like being in a dank, dark old medieval dungeon, where it's freezing cold and all you can hear are the screams of prisoners being tortured in the surrounding blackness and the tools that are making it happen

black metal is difficult because it needs to often find the balance between "no bass" and "not too much treble."

"but very rarely does bad production work in music's favor. "

if it fits the music then it's not 'bad production,' since it works. But if you just have crappy mixing/recording that doesn't enhance the sound, then yes, it's bad for musics. Like Death Magnetic.
