Pierced rips, so does this

pierced is too polished. this is pretty nice and dirty and the riffs are better imo. and yeah the drums are more slickly produced on pierced but mike smith owns everything on this

This > Pierced, any day. Jac, stop following the Sputnik rating trend and release this rules all.

I had a banana smoothie the other day and it was pretty thick, I thought to myself "is this as thick as Effigy's riffage?"
Nuh, not quite.

Suffocation changed Death Metal forever with this album. Brutal vocals, technical riffs, chaotic solos, well placed breakdowns, and of course the intense drumming of Mr. Mike Smith.
Production is done by Scott burns and is excellent. However I am torn between this album and Pierced from Within. This album is more raw, while Pierced is more polished and the bass is at the perfect level.
Mike Smith's drumming on this album is a stand out that separates it from many other Death Metal albums of the early 1990s. His ability to play tight and loose with fantastic double basswork and great fills throughout the album makes it standout.
Doug Cerrito is to thank for the great riffs on this album. From the brutal title track Effigy of the Forgotten to the more thrashy Jesus Wept.
There is no filler on this album. It's strong from the opening track to the outro Jesus Wept.
Masterpiece.

Pierced is better

IMO riffs on Pierced are much better, they are actually the main reason I prefer it over Effigy. more technical, more varied, and more groovy, while still thrashy and brutal like on this album
EDIT: looks like skele has been banned again lol, I was talking to him about the riffs
