I'm starting to think american idiot's phenomenal success was the worst thing to ever happen to them.

A classic for nostalgia, but not very good in terms of quality, commercialised to fuck

it's not even nostalgic to me. it's an amazing album but it ruined them. they decided to keep the puzzling image
change, gained a load of underaged fans, and became way too full of themselves. they've always been a mainstream
band but it just gave them way too much exposure. they put way too much into that album to the point they had
nothing left to give. you could sense with warning that they were probably gonna run out of steam soon. american
idiot was basically a last ditch effort to reinvent themselves but was also a fluke because that album took all they
had left to offer in terms of quality. I don't see them ever coming back from the hole they've dug for themselves.

Kinda sad really

Foxboro Hot Tubs was a nice twist and I enjoy hearing the garage influences on these three records, but 14 songs or so were enough to do the job. Of course, the non-sense lyrics only make things worse.

they should consider themselves lucky since american idiot was lighting in a bottle but it'll never be repeated again.

Yeah, FHT was pretty cool

Album Rating: 2.5
it's frustrating because I can hear them trying to recapture the old days in some of these songs but for some odd
reason it just never quite sits right in the end and I start to feel annoyed so I change the album to their other stuff.

Andcas, say all you want about what Green Day is "trying to do," but you are looking at this whole
thing incorrectly. I've seen the clips from the documentary. The band got together in their practice
room and played out the tunes they liked and then put them on an album. They are not "trying" to do
anything, like be "this" or "that." They are putting out music that they like, just as any band. I
really like Tre, and that is with a mindset that isn't plagued by hate for a band that "changed."
You, me, and the rest of us are over-analyzing and over-judging the band. We need to just take a
step back and remember that this is Green Day we are talking about. Go back and listen to Insomniac
and you may be surprised by how average it is.
