I think it's solid, personally. The only thing I didn't like were the beats. I agree with you about that. They are pretty weak for the most part. They work on Sad Eyes, but not most of the other tracks.

i would say that for the first half of the album, but that last half has all the good songs they kill it for the most part (reckless, 1991, vanished, black panther all unreal IMO)
