you don't even like opeth very much, so it's strange to take that last thing seriously

You don't have to love a band to talk about it, right?

"In terms of overall discography, highs, influence, live performances, longevity and size Iron Maiden are so much ahead of a band like Opeth."

The comparisons with regards to discography and highs are completely subjective obviously and I could think of arguments on both sides of the coin as to who is better in those regards.

A lot of the other things you mentioned are exactly why it's unfair to compare the two bands as a lot of it has to do with the period in which the respective bands were formed (influence and longevity) and the style of music they play/the resulting target audience (size).

Course he is right, he's living long and prospering in his vacuum sealed logic bubble surrounded by his vast, perfectly organised volumes on pragmatic theory.

80s Maiden obliterate Opeth.

That's technically a great work, consistency is a different thing, in my opinion.

Few (or even none) were consistent throughout the entire career. The most consistent moments that come to mind are 70s Floyd or 80s Maiden, Metallica, Slayer and Marillion.

Agreed, actually.

I'll correct - there's (well almost) no band more consistent than 80's Maiden. Post 2000 is great too, only 90's are so-so.

Rush are more consistent, their "bad" era was longer than Maiden's but even their weak albums are at least great

Rush's 'bad era', if you will, is no where near the low that Maiden sunk to in the mid 90's........and vapor trails has a bunch of great tunes on it wtf
