Yeah I'm giving this probably my 6th listen (admittedly I've listened to Type Three more than the rest of the album except the pre-released ones). Listening for lyrics has me very impressed though. I haven't heard any shitty fan girl-pandering lyrics a la Breaking or Art of War (chorus). Apparently parts of this album lyrically is inspired from the Egyptian Revolution.

(By the way I'm totally digging Other Side. What a fantastic song! I was starting to think about 4'ing this, but not anymore.)

Yeah I'm listening to Intentions right now. It's great but such a strange song. It's like a better version of There is No Mathematics... to me.

Once I have this actual CD and put it on the ipod I'm going to shuffle the whole Anberlin discography and spend 16 hours out in the day walking around Tulsa doing whatever listening to and doing whatever fate brings.

can't wait to hear this when it's not at a crappy stream quality
but i can't see this getting above a 4. which is still good, but not AOTY material by a longshot, and this will never beat Cities.

gonna listen to Dark is the Way again for some reference, hated that album when i first heard it.

I hated Dar at first and for many months. It only grew on me a couple months ago

Dark's always been a cool album idk what you guys are talking about. The album had some of their best musical moments, like We Owe This To Ourselves' bridge and the Art of War's intro. Plus Pray Tell is one of their best songs ever

listened, and it still frustrates me. they forgot how to write a good chorus for that album. only Art of War is straight up awful but everything else is just blah.

What? Art of War might be their best composition instrumentally. Everything comes together so well, although I do concede the chorus's lyrics are pretty poor (but that wouldn't make it awful).

They "forgot" how to make a good chorus for the "hard" song (We Owe This To Ourselves, To The Wolves) but the rest are great. That's one of the oddest criticisms I've heard, since the slowed-down nature of the album gave more focus to the melodic choruses.

The lyrics derail the entire song for me.

To the Wolves is one of my favorites on the album. Too many of the choruses are really repetitive (Closer, You Belong Here, etc.) and don't have the passion that I expect from them.

I know my dislike of that album is kind of unpopular on this site but I'm sticking to it.

It's not that unpopular actually. There are plenty of people who don't like DitW, or maybe don't like it as much as the rest of Anberlin's discography. And lol the lyrics are so bad that you call the song awful? That's awfully harsh. The lyrics of the verse are pretty neat anyways, though the chorus ruins it. Opinions, though. If you're that big on lyrics, Anberlin must be the biggest hit-or-miss band, considering how they go from Breaking to Miserabile Visu on the same album.

I quite enjoy To The Wolves too, but it's not for the chorus. (I really enjoy the "Thought it was me and you against the world/ But you left me to the wolves!") And yeah, if you have a problem with the songs lyrically (Closer/Closer/Closer!") versus musically, then I can see where you're coming from, since DitW has some of the weakest lyrics from Anberlin.
