About 5 songs in, my exact thought was, "Man, this kicks Wormwood right in the nuts. Way better."
Then, it was like I just listened the first half over again but without anything fresh- and by fresh, I mean merely new to my
ears, not new for the band.
I've enjoyed this for the last couple of days, but I imagine the replay value isn't going to keep my rating where it is
now.

Still better than Wormwood.

Great review Michael, pos'd hard n heavy.

Im yet to listen to this, but i believe i understand what you mean when you mention that the ambiences are a weak try at being different. I mean, after a few years putting out pretty much the same type of "heavy", now they recur to atmospheric stuff and whatnot. I mean, it seems like a trendy thing to do nowadays.

After the Burial are there because they do the shitload of breakdowns + melody effectively.

Amia Venera Landscape are there because they do the ambient + metalcore effectively.

This band is a fucking blast. Don't take it too seriously. I mean, they don't. Their lyrics are just hate for one's self/mankind/women/everything and it's hilarious. They are in on the joke.

And give us a definition of "heavy." I think there can be different forms of "heavy" music and this gives us one end of the spectrum of that. There isn't denying that is album is heavy, i don't understand that.

However, this ranks way below Continent and even Wormwood for me.

just because a band is in on the joke doesn't make them good. i agree with you that its very tongue-in-cheek, but the band just isn't all that good

Music needs substance to be heavy. There's absolutely nothing "heavy" about this album. They just seriously tune their
guitars low and chug on an open string, then go into a breakdown. Breakdowns work at being heavy...only if they have
something to be heavy after. The Acacia Strain doesn't understand how to make anything in their music heavy. It lacks
the substance, the build up, the crushing brutality, the atmosphere, the EVERYTHING. Anybody, and I mean
anybody can pick up a guitar and chug the same note for three minutes and then hit the china, the snare, the
china, the snare, the china, the snare really slowly every thirty seconds. The Acacia Strain are in on a bad joke, still
making themselves bad, they're trying to be heavy without understanding the basic principles of how to be heavy, and
they're just reeeeeaaaaaaaally boring. If this is your idea of fun, I applaud you for being so easily entertained.

This will probably end up getting a 2 or a 1.5, for me at least. This is so bad.

Album's not heavy at all. But that's not why I didn't enjoy it.

how is this not heavy? it's terrible but you can't say it's not heavy, that's just dumb. i realize there are different ways that music can be heavy, but tuning to drop a and chugging over double bass kicks and growls is surely one of them, even if the music sucks. being heavy isn't a statement of quality or a badge of honor, which is how you're treating it. there's good and bad heavy music.

I don't see how it's heavy at all. I don't care about how good or bad the music is, I actually liked the album, but it isn't heavy at aaaaalllllllll. Chugging in a dropped tuning isn't a way to be heavy, in my opinion. It doesn't sound heavy, doesn't feel heavy. Just sounds chuggy.
