EPs generally either go by total length, or by number of songs. But it's really just up to the artist/label to decide what to tag releases as. Moonsorrow have a 108 minute EP that contains one 29-minute track of new material, and 4 cover songs. If GY!BE wanted to release a one-song album a la Edge of Sanity, they could consider it either an EP or LP, whichever suited their fancy.

this is def a grower, and a worthy follow-up to yanqui if a little on the short side. worried fire is glorious. easily the least effective mixing/production i've heard from them though.

As the term "EP" was conceived during the time of vinyl, it's become a little blurred in the digital transition. At this point, you'd have to leave it up to the artist to decide whether they want to treat the record an EP or an LP.

“We drift like worried fire” is the best of a fairly mediocre bunch. Too bad, I wanted to like this more.
