It's Converge. There has to be a shit-storm of drama or it's not a true release.

Let's be honest here:

Everybody who says Converge is trying to go (slightly) mainstream with this release is correct. It's still quality though.

dont see how this is a more mainstream approach than axe to fall (which is their second best release), it's a dirtier album and more hxc/punk than axe to fall

i think axe to fall is their most mainstream/accessible album i mean dark horse is catchy as a mofo

Anyone hearing Mastodon in some of the guitar work on this album? Also the entire first track

this album is far less abrasive than axe to fall but i would argue that actually makes it less likely to succeed commercially because of the style converge plays.

It's just the feeling I get from it. There's a lot of doom and stoner undertones on this one, to me at least.

besides converge have absolutely no interest in making music specifically to please more people, anybody who knows the character of any member of this band especially kurt would know that even if it is more accessible to more metalheads it wasn't intentional

I definitely hear the old Mastodon, but I think that's really just 90s Entombed coming through. Old Mastodon just sounded a lot like Entombed too, not that it's a bad thing.

It doesn't really matter what their intentions were.

agreed, but again even if it is more accessible

i dont consider it to be a great punk band 'selling out' if thats the idea people are getting

Hell, I'd be fine if these guys were a household name. It's not going to happen, but they're definitely closer to that here.

I don't think this is any more of an attempt to go "mainstream" than You Fail Me was. Everyone thought Converge sold out then.

You Fail Me is not an easy listen in the slightest.

Looks like this is staying @ 4 for me. It's sweet but just ain't as interesting as JD/YFM etc. and I doubt reading the lyrics when I finally get my preorder in the mail will change that.

I think I'm gonna spin some Entombed this week, haven't done that in a while

yea tbh this is still definitely a really good hardcore album but its got too many skippable tracks compared to their other shit. jd, axe, yfm and ptes are better
