One thing I'm not extremely fond of is the preoccupation with the technical side of things, I think it gets too often caught up with the techniques and not what they can express. I also find myself not very interested in riff based music, maybe it's because I've heard almost every variation of a riff you can make before.

I haven't turned on every band I used to like I just don't really listen to them much.

thats true with modern tech death and shit but bands like death and shit have the most passionate riffs ever, like have you heard focus from cynic? technical as fuck but holy shit its sooo amazing you can hear the emotionz cumin through the pickups like tear drops from a orphaned child its amazing, especially on textures

The last stuff I was really interested in was atmospheric/experimental black metal related stuff. I still kind of got tired of the attitude and imagery, but musically that's where a lot of the stuff that caught my interest was. Extreme metal vocals also got kind of boring.

@alachlahol I'm still waiting to see if it gets taken down. If it does, then I'll probably just resubmit it later, hopefully with less hell to pay. But so far it's gone over 24 hours without deletion, so who knows. This thread might just get to stick around.

Only here does the comments section for a post-rock album turn into a discussion about Gorguts and Voivod haha.
