It's a very bad review, because the author DON'T know that it is a "COVER ALBUM"!!!
There are only cover versions of old french chansons on it. And they are done very well into the Therion-Style!!

Como on people this album is great!
I don't know way every time Therion give us something new a lot of people doesn't understand it and start talking really bad about it. it has happened specially with Theli, Vovin, secret of the runes, gothic Kabbalah and sitra Ahra. Some of these people grew up and now they can see this albums are great. Same thing is happening with "Les fleurs du mal". some people say it is the worst album ever but they said the same about Theli back in the day and nowadays Theli is The Mighty Theli! See the difference ?
Soon, people is going to notice that this is an amazing album. It's like sex the more you do it, the better it gets. So listen to it, the more you listen to it, the more you will understand. Unless some of you are still virgin, well you guys won't understand.
This is for mature minds

Couldn't disagree more with the review. And I agree with lemmyroc. In fact in my case, back in the days, when I heard Lepaca Kliffoth I thought it was a great disappointment, LOL. I was so used to the "death metal Therion" I couldn't understand that change in musical direction.
This is a cover album of french ballads, and Christofer just turned them into Therion's style so well, that I think this album deserves not less than a 5. It has the BEST vocals I have heard in Therion in a long time. Lori's voice is just perfect. It takes balls to do what Johnsson did in here.

It being an album of 'covers' of old french ditties does not make it a great album. In fact, it could be the very thing that held the album back from being great. My only fault was not bringing attention to it in my review, however I was really just focused on the quality of the music.

The logic is quite flawed to say that this collection of forgettable and boring songs is amazing because of the theme and origin of the music. If these songs had instead been entirely original compositions, should that make the album worse by that logic? The merits of the music should stand on their own.

I was harsh, and indeed this album may be worthy of a 2.0 as background music or something you listen to after you down some Nyquil and prepare for bed. But I believe my points are valid, and saying the review is bad because it doesn't echo your dispositions is plain silly.

You know, after a couple of listens I'm starting to realize this is a fun album to listen to. It's
nothing incredible, and some posts above you are lol as fuck, but it's definitely not that bad, imo.

As I said before, Therion pissed me off like hell by making an album in French. I hate that language. But I have to admit, the music is good at least. Definitely better and less awkward than Sitra Ahra, which was mediocre-low.

This is a cover album, which means none of these songs is written by Therion.

I take my hat off to Christofer Johnsson for this art project and for self releasing it. And an F-you to the whiny fanboys who are unable to tolerate any kind of change. If I don't like an album, I listen to something else, and focus on what I do like, instead of becoming obsessed with trolling about what I hate.
And I happen to like this album, it sounds just like Therion should sound, and so what if it's in french? It's a covers album of french songs, duh!
Thankyou Therion, and looking forward to your Rock Opera.

dude it's not that therion have been releasing amazing albums for the last 10 years, and now everyone is pissed at them becuase of LFDM.

I mean, I'm starting to think this is actually the best thing they've released since Sirius B, and this is far from being a masterpiece.

@rockzombie, I don't see anyone here that is upset by a change in direction. I see people who think that this is an amazing masterpiece and defending it by saying it is a collection of cover songs of French origin, and I see people who think the album is underwhelming or not very good.

Sitra Ahra was far different than LFDM, but they are both pretty bad albums. People are allowed to disagree, I just simply cannot see how this record and Sitra Ahra could be considered 4.5 or 5, especially compared to their great previous works (even if they were also "different").

In retrospect, I should probably raise the review's rating to a 2.0 because the low rating probably makes the review read worse than the words themselves say.

"Les Fleurs Du Mal" is a famous work of Charles Baudelaire that influenced new style directions in literature during the 19th century.

It's also worth noting that all of the people who came here to post a long defensive Therion-schlong-stroking comment are all brand new accounts (SongOfFall, Rollmops65, lemmyroc, WarriorSoul5, SolanumNigrum, die666). They were all their first and only comments (so far), even weeks after. Suspicious? Minions of house Therion, perhaps? The English in most of those comments are also consistently bad compared to the average Sputniker.

I'll be the first to say that I love Therion, and they have made some amazing work that is both unique and inspiring. However, that doesn't make all their work indisputably good.

Good review by the way. i totally agree that since gothic kaballah therion is degenrating riffs, sort of recycling of french shansons.. where is the therion used to make even popish songs "summer night city" amazing. i think that therion able still to do better and produce albums with riffs and idea behind unlike sitra ahra and poupe le poop! and dont understand me wrong when they performing they do really well. but the only good taste of them will remain until 2008. from of then they are running out of idea and trying to appeal. please stop the bullshit and give some melodies with balls.

If I didn't hate anything French so much, I'd probably semi-dig this album.
