Not that bad of an album imo. But valid points.

Pointing out someones personal flaws or mistakes to bring attention to your article is an asshole move.

Sputnik staff reviews have always been more about the group and their catalog as a whole rather than the album at hand. Rarely does a sputnik staffer get right down to the sound of a specific album and analyze it. For some reason they have always felt the need to contextualize rather than analyze, and it's always been the most painfully amateur aspect of the staff writing on this site.

Great review. I knew this would be awful, just based on the single. Seems like all these big bands put out shit albums recently. Green Day, The Killers, No Doubt, Muse, etc.

Ah yes, a moment of keen insight here. I'm not being sarcastic---that's a good point. I don't agree with your conclusion, though, nor do I really like the idea of characterizing any group of people as one solitary unit. I don't think all Sputnik reviewers reject analysis, but they do always contextualize their analysis. I don't think is a bad thing. Hearing how a band uses a D# submediant instead of the expected E# (yes I'm quite aware this is F) leading tone isn't really useful to the reader. Hearing how a band doesn't end a song in tonic in order to create the unfinished feeling that reflects the song's theme about love, however, can be useful analysis, but most people won't understand what that means anyways.

However, context is always helpful. Explaining how Billy Joel's juvenile clamoring at his legacy, while simultaneously ruining it with one vapid pop song after another, is perfectly relevant to the theme of the review at hand.

this is true. I don't hate the record as much as you might think it's probably a 2.5 IMO just like 21st century breakdown I just have it at a 2 cause it needed a negative review. (well now it has like 3 negative reviews but ya know)

As long as you keep bringing Jenna Fischer with you Sowing, I don't think anyone will mind.
