yeah it's somewhere between a 2.5 and 3 for me. i'm gonna give it a 3 because i think that subconsiously all this bullshit about them "ruining music and shitting on their influences" blah blah is making me like it less. the album is really samey and lacks powerful standout tracks like Sigh No More had, but I'll probably give it a few more spins before i never listen to it again so who knows maybe i'll find some.

Nice review Sowing, not too impressed by the album tbh. I get into arguments all the time with my friend who reveres Mumford like gods, so this is nice to see.

I've listened to the album at least 30+ times now. Keep listening and you will start to hear more standout songs. There are still 2-3 that I haven't caught on to yet. I think "Babel," "Lover of the Light," "Hopeless Wanderer," "Broken Crown," and "Below My Feet" are all fantastic. And if you have the deluxe version, "Where Are You Now?" is also great. Definitely not a flop in my opinion.

The only part I didn't like in it was when things slow down. It felt tacked on and I'd actually prefer if the track ended before then.

1st - I don't get the hate at all. Still better than 95% of anything on the radio.

2nd - you can never have to much banjo. Never!

3rd - It's an good album, but sure as hell not ground breaking by any stretch of the imagination but I'm sure that's not what they were aiming for anyway.

Hating on it because fans think they are the second coming? That makes no sense whatsoever. Hate it because you hate it, fine, but no other reason is valid. Other people's opinion on music should never affect what you think of it.

I dunno. The banjo here just starts to sound really grating and banjo-less after a while for me. =/

It's played more like a guitar here than a banjo, at least for me. It has none of them sweet rolls and
his plucking technique is weird and because the chords are so focused on the melody; it loses the
power of the banjo and what it can provide for a song.
