No way. These guys are way better than Hellyeah in every aspect. They're on the same level as Black Label Society imo.

the fact that this kind of record has already been done before makes this worse. OK maybe not worse than Hellyeah, but just because Hellyeah are really bad. Haven't heard the whole record but I just don't see this deserving a four...

1. The songs are definitely formulaic, but it's about what you expect for this kind of music.
2. Damn You to Hell - Brain rotting.
3. The album is fun. It's not what I'd plug into my headphones at work and listen to, but definitely something that I'd crank in my truck (yeah, truck) after a shit day.
4. Video for turn it up. Yeah, it's objectifying and gimmicky, but (with as few music videos as I watch) seeing some ass shake isn't so bad.

I agree with the review. But, it seems more like a 3 to me.

I cant see an album with the lead single's chorus being "CMON CMON CMON CMON TURN IT UP! CMON CMON CMON CMON TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP! JUST TURN IT UP LOUDERRRRRRR!!" being a 4 sry.

...and don't forget: "Little Sarah was from Texas / She was the preacher’s daughter / She never practiced much of what her father taught her." or "I have a big ol’ truck / And I can’t get stuck / You think I suck / And I don’t give a f..."

Listening to it right now, it will probably be a 3 or 3.5.

First song was terrible. So much so that I'd only listen further if I wanted to rate this.

these guys and their lyrics. It's awful. It reminds me of one of those horrible reality shows about truckers or some shit.

@drewcordova:

It's all about preferences. I dig Southern rock music. That's why I rated this so high.

@YouGotLucky:

I kind of dig the lyrics even though they're very often stupifying. They fit this style of music quite well... and truckers are human beings too. ;)

Southern-tinged metal you say? Well, gonna look into this then because I can definitely dig some southern tinged metal at the end of the summer. Solid review in general, as is the norm for you =)

Thanks. This is an acquired taste type of record, but I really think you may enjoy it Magnus. This LP is their best for sure.

Well I'm acquiring it as we speak, so I should be able to give you my thoughts during the next few days (hopefully, because I'll be leaving town for a week or so in the coming days).

I've sort of grown off of southern metal cuz a lot of bands just always seem to have an obvious faux southern badass attitude but I'll check this out. Are the riffs cool at least?

Big Dad Rich won't ever win the Pullitzer Prize in literature. Hell, he won't even be nominated for the super extended longlist for best collection of poetry in the smallest Texas sh*thole. But he sounds so damn convincing it makes you believe he believes every single word he belts out over those southern metal grooves. It's one of the main reasons I like this album (and their first one) way more than I probably ought to.

Very nice review by the way. Spot on.
