Bump. Here's this album that I like that I think this album should've sounded more like but didn't because they cleaned up the production and made it sound all wimpy wobbly. http://ayrofficial.bandcamp.com/album/nothing-left-to-give

I'm almost halfway through the record. It's good and stuff, but so far I'd say I prefer their demos/split and even the s/t to this one. Hopefully the 2nd half is better.

Yeah the s/t is better, but I still think this is pretty close. Then again, I love everything this band has done.

Ayr is pretty much Ash Borer split into fast/slow/ambient tracks. I hope they release more stuff eventually.

Like every one of their EPs is arranged in the exact same way a la Metallica's 2-3-4 albums, but they're similarly all good so who cares.

It must be the super-duper production on it that so many people complained ruined their sound.

It did though. The riffs lost their power, and the bass drums sorta thump along awkwardly in many places. Lower production suited this band better because it made the tremelo notes merge together into a wall of angry noise. Now everything's clear and lacks the enveloping atmosphere.

It's not as good. Some of the riffs/melodies could've sounded more powerful.

Like 6:40 in Convict all Flesh the rhythm guitar is too low in the mix.
And 3:40 in Phantoms the melody could've been much more powerful and aggressive, but it wasn't. Same
thing at 10:20 in the last track.

It's not a bad album by any means, but after I drooled over the S/T, this was pretty disappointing.

Luckily I still have Fell Voices and Skagos to look forward to. :-)
