I agree that this sounds like it should be up my alley (sorry I know that was a whole page ago) I'll give it another spin maybe.

And for that David, I thank you.
Maybe try the different track ordering technique I mentioned earlier Phideaux.

The riff in Beautiful Darkside reminds me so much of Anberlin's The Unwinding Cable Car. But I'm not complaining.

Damn, I love this so much.

tbh I'm kind of surprised this is going over so well. I thought I was being pretty generous with a 4. these guys were one of the early bands I listened to back in the day

^ yeah I don't think it's that awesome. A sweet record but nothing amazing

Great to hear you are in love paxman. Tbh, I didn't pick up that similarity. The one I did was the intro to 'Let Me Die' reminds me of a City & Colour song.
David, could that in itself be a detriment for you maybe? There is a clear change of direction here, so that could play a natural & understandable part in your concluding thoughts.

idk I think the main thing is I think their lyrics are kinda weak on this, just not as mature all around compared to Silver Cord or Seattle Sessions imo

I'd disagree with that. The good far outweighs the bad re: lyrics on this. If you could see my scrawled as to what lyrics were contenders for being quoted in this review, you'd be amazed. I'd even say 'The Precipice' is their best individual song from a lyrical standpoint.
"Ripping this onto my computer as we speak. Yessssss"
Here comes the true judge. I won't be able to even fashion up a response if you rate this under a 4, Zero.

I just want to confirm that DaveyBoy, champion of Anberlin, has just compared an album to 'Cities'.
Davey, don't hurt me. I'll give this a listen, but you've definitely brought me expectations.
Also, bonus points for that summary. I would expect no less.

CONFIRMED!

@Winsomniac
It's not a lot 'like' it. I don't think that is the comparison. Like I don't listen to this and hear Cities so don't expect that. It's just the same genre and very consistently good

Nah, I think it's a bot more like 'Cities' than you give it credit for. There's the predominantly acoustic songs, the straight-up rock songs & a couple of grand mini-epics. Throw in the fact that it's the same genre & both lead singers have excellent voices & there's enough in common.

And they both have a dark tone to them too. I totally get the comparison. I like Cities better but this is solid stuff.
