Knott did it with Owl City and Mumford and Sons. They really were great reviews.

Amazing review, Sowing. As a fellow 24 year-old, I started listening to YC when I was 15, when Ocean Avenue came out. Your point about it being the next chapter in some people's lives is spot on, that's exactly how I feel about their albums.

Thanks Sanders and Tyrael, and everyone else who showed this review some love. When I was writing it it honestly felt like my earliest sputnik days again, back when I'd write like 2 pages for anything and everything. Of course because this isn't just anything though, it made me really want to do it justice.
And yeah Sanders, I remember hearing Way Away on a Madden soundtrack and then someone else introduced me to Ocean Avenue a year later when I was 16. It completely changed my life (at that age, pop-punk can do that) and became the soundtrack to every good or bad relationship experience I had. Lights and Sounds defined my senior year of high school, I remember listening to it on my senior trip and stuff. Then Paper Walls came out on my birthday during the summer after freshman year of college, so that meant a lot to me and is also tied to all the memories I was making with my new friends from the university. Then WYTTSY came at the time I got a job and moved out of my parents house, so a pretty critical juncture...now this album comes as I'm simultaneously at a low point and high point....looking for a new job because the one I have is terrible to me, and finally starting to have things work out with my dream girl.
tl;dr version: YC is like a slideshow of memories of my life
And I know you can do what I just did with any band (relate releases to what was going on in your life at that exact moment) but what makes YC so special is that somehow every album has managed to relate to what I was going through at that time.

The comment I just made is about a short paragraph away from being a review. God somebody needs to play the "wrap it up" music with me.
|
| |
Nah man it's comments like that where we get to know the person behind the cold and distant staff title better.
I really wish I had the emotional attachment to music that you have

I really wish I still had the emotional attachment to music that I do to YC
To be honest listening to so much music has made it less special to me. But a select few bands will always be able to cut through that and reach me on a level that counts.

D'aww
I don't have that kind of connection with any kind of music except for maybe some emo bands but that usually doesn't last very long so bleh.

It's been a year.

wonderful review, very descriptive, you also described the emotional effect it had on you which i found was a nice touch. their last album was by far their best, i gotta pick this up

This is every bit as good as WYTTSY or better, so I recommend you pick it up as well.

I've tried 3 times to get through this whole thing at once, something keeps distracting me

"And yeah Sanders, I remember hearing Way Away on a Madden soundtrack and then someone else introduced me to Ocean Avenue a year later when I was 16."
Haha, same with me, except I heard Way Away first on SSX 3.
"tl;dr version: YC is like a slideshow of memories of my life"
Exactly, looks like a mutual love of Jenna Fischer isn't all we share!
