I don't think it's as good as the previous but it is still great, no doubt. I loved the last and caused my expectations for this to be high, so when that wears off I may bump this to a 4. Disagree with the review on Chuck's vocals, they're as good as they've ever been; he seems more comfortable in this vocal style than any other he has adopted in the past.

I disagree with the review. They didn't abandonned the death metal part ! There is at least 2 songs with some quite fast blast beats and I've almost never heard that in a Testament record (I can't recall any real blast beat on The Gathering for example). On and on this album might be a bit more "soft" and mid tempo than The Formation of Damnation (which was a really good album as well), but I also find more memorable moments and catchy choruses here (True American Hate, Native Blood, Day In The Death).
No really, for me it's a really good Testament with some nice surprises (the balad "Cold Embrace"... I hate power balads but this one is interesting with some nice epic melodies).

Is 'A Day In The Death' a parody to The Beatles?

Testament have spolied us... I had also high expectations for this album after the Formation Of Damnation but nevertheless it's an ok album, nothing more nothing less. Although the first 4 songs could definetely become the new anthems in their live shows, after A Day In The Death, the album seems to drag a little bit.

You should probably drop your ratting then. A 3.5 is nothing to scoff at.
