well duh but usually they just loop instead of progressing as the song goes on.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm convinced that you have a rather narrow perception of what constitutes sampling. Of course you've got your repetitive stuff (normally vocal snippets but it can certainly extend to anything), but you can also use a sample as a basis for an original composition. Not just using the borrowed piece as a starting point and simply expanding upon it, but by actually manipulating and twisting that sample into something entirely new, and adding to it as the song goes on. That's still a sample, but it's not the cut and paste hackjob that your comments would seem to indicate as being the only logical use of sampling

i get what you're saying, obviously i'm speaking generally here. here's one of my favorite sample-based tracks because it adds original material to the sample and builds on it rather than just being repetitive.

For someone who seems to have discovered electronic music recently you really don't seem to have a vested interest in any of its aspects Aubergine

i like what i like, i'm not going to make myself enjoy something that i don't just because it's generally well liked.

"i like music that has a more post-rock structure as opposed to a hip-hop structure if that makes sense."

That's not the point I was getting at.....

What I'm implying is that it's rather odd that you're either wanting to, or have dived into a variety of music that really doesn't seem to be for you

i do like electronic music, but i'm not a fan of a lot of the more generic aspects of it. it's a genre that i see a lot of potential in, but just like most genres there are a lot of artists that seem to do the same thing without really stretching the boundaries of what that genre is capable of. a lot of electronic music i listen to and think it would be really good if it didn't hold so strong to some of the more formulaic aspects of the genre.

scoot and i were the first of this recent wave of every user and their mother releasing electronic
music. before that it seemed to be just you and jash and couple other people.

so by listening to generic electronic music you decided you felt inspired to make your own ep which also pushes no boundaries and offers absolutely nothing new and has nothing of any quality whatsoever

If an artist chooses to release something that's based in a particular genre he's not obligated to do anything but

obviously nobody is obligated to do anything but release the music they want to release, i'm just saying as someone who isn't a fan of the more bass oriented, looped, sample-based, etc. aspects of electronic music it would be nice to see other artist make music electronically without falling so strictly under "electronic music" as a genre.
