Yeah, and gays' music all sounds the same, hence why Porcupine Tree=Periphery

I like a few Porcupine Tree songs but I cannot get past how corny they are to me. Along with how hard they rip off Opeth, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd.

They don't really ripoff Opeth (depends which era you're talking about), but Floyd defo. Dark Matter, Melotron Scratch and Anesthetize are faves for me

Parts of In Absentia and FOABP kind of have a Opeth tinge to me. I've only listened to those albums tho so I don't really know what their other eras are like.

For those two, mainly In Absentia, there's a bit of Opeth. Check out Signify and Stupid Dream if you want something different, less Opethy and slightly more Radiohead (Stupid Dream) or Floyd (Signify)

People keep praising "Scarlet" but Holcomb had that going around on the internet almost 2 years ago, minus the wacky vocals

These guys have a lot of unfair weight riding on their shoulders. Smoke and mirrors tell us that
this "band" has been around since 2005-06, but I think a lot of people forget that this is a group
releasing their first album together. Individually, they've been writing single/instrumental tracks
for years, and when older fans and critics alike are expecting a Periphery "album", it's obviously
not going to match expectations-----yet.

Periphery II is completely hit and miss in regard to structure. The tracks work decently well
individually but fail when spliced together and copy/pasta'd with ambient passages. Everything feels
forced. As stated a billion times over by other reviewers, the play time consistently lags a little
bit. Some of the songs/passages are effing fantastic but upon rating this as an album, I agree with
a 3.0 rating, but not quite comfortable with a 3.5 yet.

Positive: I see a band that finally has a solid lineup and holds a common vision of where they want
to take their music. Even though this album wasn't a hit, I'm predicting tremendous growth between
this album and the next (Periphery III?) (Juggernaut?) Once their sound gets a little bit more
refining and aging, it's going to be pretty wicked.

It kinda does sound like b-side material really, but so did the first one in a lot of places.

Good news is, the next album will be a concept album (i.e. hopefully more focused)
but until then, we'll just have to live with the gems that Periphery have released.
