Should, if you actually like the album the replay value is pretty good. Just saying the guy argued over 2 pages and no one sufficiently put him in his place ( which I feel like happens often in these threads ). In fact I feel like he disclaimed a bit of hate people generate twords this band.

For over 2 pages, he failed to differentiate musicianship and songwriting talent and assume that all talent intrinsically attracts a fanbase.

^Complete non-sequitur. When exactly did the need to differentiate arise?

You described Periphery as 'good' and the music scene as a meritocracy. A meritocracy on that scale can't be subjective. The only objectively good part of Periphery is their musicianship. Differentiation is required because musical chops do not mean good songs.

Musical chops do not mean good songs, agreed. But good music is entirely subjective. A fair number of people think that Periphery makes good music, regardless of whether you or I think they write "good songs".

Actually, when you think a band sucks it means you only think a band sucks, and that thinking
may not be your strong suit
Funny how that works

Quick turn-around there buddy, nobody noticed.

I said that when you think a band sucks you only think a band sucks i.e. subjectivity. It has no relation to whether
they actually suck.

the songwriting could be a lot better, and a lot of the hooks / riffs aren't catchy enough. that about sums it up

Sitar did make his point a while back. Bottom line, music IS very subjective. I think i know what he felt like when underlining that fact. That's what i feel like doing when i see people going "shit band" on a thread. When someone wants to have a real discussion and everybody seems willing to simply hate on a band, it can get pretty frustrating.

Just saying

dudez have as tenuous a grasp on smooth-flowing rhythm and composition as almost every other Meshuggah-cribbing outfit

there's also a disparity between their 'self aware', 'semi-parodical' sound that jumps frequently and jarringly in tone (with all the harsh/clean vocal switching and riffs twitching spastically from jun-jun omgsoheavy to weedlyweedly lolarentwereallyspacey fret fingerrape, often multiple times in a bar) and the obviously serious-business, spottily-written lyrics

well that said the lyrics and music both sound mawkish as hell so i guess that's one common link they share

tl;dr shit's annoying
yay opinions
