"so true. I always put creativity in front of technicality. and damn the way he plays songs live is just incredible, he hits those drums so damn hard! m"

This is also bullshit.
Drums are almost purely technical. There are no modes or chords. One does not worry about harmony...

If you don't have technique as a drummer, you just suck. Go play in the White Stripes.
Technique is VITAL to drumming.

How does this compare to their other albums?

How does this compare to their other albums?

Songwriting is on par with TWOAF, but the originality and experimentalism that had dominated Gojira through their entire career is gone. They now have a style that they play without experimenting. Gojira fans will find a bunch of great Gojira songs here but they won't find anything "new".

"Drums are almost purely technical. There are no modes or chords. One does not worry about harmony..."

Songwriting is sometimes more important than techniques. You might be able to play extremely fast or very technical, but not many drummers can write drum parts which really stands out or is still technical and goes perfectly with the glow with songs. Nowadays, most bands have some UltraDrummer v.420,000 who can play very fast and technical, but fail to write impressive drum parts.

I'm sure they could play the stuff Mario plays as well. The reason the drumming is so pronounced is
because Joe and Mario are the combined songwriters. Same deal with Meshuggah; it's why the rhythmical
aspect is top notch in both bands. The music was written around the drumming! Or it sounds that way,
at least.

They could play what Mario plays; but that doesn't mean they could write what Mario writes. Both songwriting and ability defines a good drummer.

Why is it being compared to Koloss!? it isn't even the same band. Who cares if you think it is better than a Meshuggah album?

This band always has cool aspects to their music/are quite talented but have a lot of repetitive/boring songs. Maybe I expect too much but I always thought they were capable of so much more.

"I have to give it a Good because the band is talented but this album hasn't even been released! So, how the fuck are all these folks listening to an album not even for sale till the 26th?!" - glezz, 2012.

Exactly this, I keep waiting for them to do something really special. When that happens I will drop my rating for this and TWOAF lol.

"Who cares if you think it is better than a Meshuggah album?"

I do =)
I'm more of a Gojira fan than a Meshuggah fan so my comparison would be a little biased. I did
however love Koloss to death! Objectively I would rank them on par.

I see where you are coming from. I remember really hating Gojira when I first heard them. I pretty
much thought they milked a riff and went nowhere with it.

Now of course I think the complete opposite, but still abide that they write two-three... 3.5/5
songs per record(last 3 LPs). The other songs(Flying Whales, From the Sky, Esoteric Surgery, etc)
are SO good however, that I end up rating the album much higher.
