Yeah I see your point Voivod. I can't actually listen to FMTS or The Link all the way through in one go
anymore. Something about Gojira has won them a really passionate fanbase though.
Xeno, I'm just hypothesizing. Don't necessarily agree or disagree.
MyWife, who or what is a hawks?

Maybe they should sing in falsetto and bring lots of keyboards.
That's not what Xenophanes said.
Meshuggah don't have keyboards, they don't have falsettos, but they are progressive.
Gojira hardly present anything intriguing in their music. Especially The Way Of All Flesh was
flat from top to bottom, nothing existed to bend the mind, imo.

Yeah I know, I was just making fun of the stereotype that falsetto and keys == prog. I'm not here to
fanboyishly defend Gojira or anything, just thinking (Got a new keyboard, looking for excuses to type
things).

"Thanks but I don't think I've reached deity level yet."
Woops, heh, meant "good writing".

I don't like the few songs I've heard by this band.

I don't agree that they're not progressive. Their style has always been very technical and complex. The album sounds interesting.

i feel like gojira has always been more sludgey than anything
Digging: Twin Shadow - Confess

They have plenty of progressive influences including very technical arrangements. So I feel the tag 'progressive metal' is the most appropriate. They are definitely not sludge. The instrumentation is just too fast and technical.

@greg, i listened to the title track, and is definitely within the same bpm realm as guys like high on fire. it's definitely not atmospheric sludge / post-metal if that's what you're thinking i'm saying.
|

I cannot fathom where you hear this 'complexity.' While this record is indeed more complex than the rest of their discog, I would never say that it is inherently complex.

No, let's just agree to disagree. It's not similar to High On Fire at all. These guys are progressive (death) metal most definitely. Lots of metal bands are really heavy and does it mean they're all sludge?
|

my favorite gojira record was mars to sirius. last record sounded like that except not as good. i am assuming this is more of the same?
just feel like their drums / guitars have a sludge vibe to them. this doesn't sound like what i would expect from progressive death metal.

Listening to the stream right now.
The new record will leave my point of view for this band unchanged, I'm afraid...

This isn't sludgy at all, it's groove metal.
