Roger Patterson played on Piece Of Time, and then wrote all the bass parts to Unquestionable Presence before he died. Then Tony Choy played them on that album and Elements was his own work.

I'd recommend Cynic over Atheist, Focus is really an amzing album.

I have a few songs downloaded from this album, and I love it. Anything Cynic/Atheist/Watchtower-ish does it for me. Good stuff.

has anyone in here ever realized that the sound on Atheist's Elements has so much bass, that it can really damage you listening equipment? headphones for example, if you listen to the album a little louder than usual... I've also noted that Nevermore's Dreaming neon black has the same problem with its recording sound. Also if you compare Diana Krall's The look of love DIGIPAC with the Jewelcase version you will notice that the digipac version has the same problem...
I know of other albums in the metal genre, that have the same problem.

But has anyone in here noticed that in the Elements album?

Atheist, what the great group of musicians. I'm glad their are others that listen to them.

The Bloodhound Gang's Hurray For Boobies CD had ridiculous amounts of bass in it.

Yeah, I slightly blew out my headphones cranking Elements, there's now a slight buzz when I play anything bassy at medium-high volumes. :upset:

But this album is worth it. One of my favourites, I only wish I could buy a copy. Does anyone know where this album is available in Canada?

yeah Ebay's usually has it...
you should take a look... they've got all albums from time to time..
Yeah I blew my headphones too, but I'm going to try and 'clean' the sound of Elements with Wavelab ou Clean from Steinberg.

Anyone's got any more information about albums that don't sound right?

Piece of Time has been re-released, if you're interested in that.

What I meant is, you can buy it new. You can't buy Unquestionable Presence and Elements new. Which is a bit of a shame

I just downloaded Unquestionable Presence and I've had about half this album for quite some time now. I prefer UP to this one, but anything you touch that is labeled Atheist is gold either way.

The liner notes found in the booklet of the re-release are quite interesting. Kelly describes that they almost gave it up before Elements, that they were forced to compose it in an extremely short period and he wrote the lyrics literally the very last minute in the studio!

I love this album, Samba Briza is pure greatness.

The re-release of this album is great, I recommend it to those who want to hear Atheist live, the songs are faster than the recordings.

Oh, I'm diggin' hard on this record right now. I really think that this one is the pinnacle for these guys. I love the two albums prior, but they really smoothed out all the roughness here and made a thing as bizarre as 'technical death metal' into a well-oiled machine ready for a larger audience....Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, isn't it? No matter what kind of production you impose on these Atheist albums, you're still never going to get something ready for the masses. And, we wouldn't have it any other way....But, they did develop something more detailed and refined on this one, and I'm all for a band honing its craft until perfection. And, I do think that Atheist sound was perfected here. I would be inclined to say that it's too bad that this one is the last in line, but the fact that there's only three Atheist records makes each one more valuable. I think that the further they went on, the more diluted it would have become.....But, that doesn't mean that I'm not ready for another one after all this time.
