production is the only thing Symbolic is better. Dont get me wrong, its not a bad album by all means, but simply put, cant hold a candle to H and ITP.



If by songwriting you mean tamer music and extended riffs.. well, to each its own. What makes H and I better imo is that BOTH go direct to the point, to the meat, using absolutely zero filler riffs or unnecesary extra time on the songs buildups. Just my 0.02 cents

itp is more technical but its also messier, symbolic is more streamlined but actually benefits from it as each song has just the right amount of TECH RIFF HERE then really catchy chorus riff here then best solo ever here, it all works out better than itp did imo and a lot other peoples ;)

Nope, nothing about unconventional DM or worser because of that IMO : Songs on Symbolic just have lots of parts that can be cut and go straight to the meat, they just wander too much.. and when the TECH RIFF arrives, its already been worn out in the wait (AKA not impressive).



ITP may sound messier at the beginning, but its sooo damm beautiful once your brain starts categorizing each riff, each bass line, each drum fill / triplet, etc. Symbolic its just soo streamlined for my tastes, i guess.



But its still a great album (not telling this to please anyone, its my opinion), one of the best (band and genre) Death (and prog / death ) albums ever, just a let down after the beauty of the past two albums.

ur acting like i havent listened to itp 1000 times, i know most of the songs on guitar so i'm very familiar with every riff, as i said the riffs are more technical but that doesnt automatically make them better, what parts do you think need to be cut? all the parts that dont contain technical riffage? variety is the spice of life bro if you just constantly it ends up getting tiresome like some songs on TSOP. again, symbolic has the perfect blend
