That first sentence is really hard to read... the rest of the review is good though.

The rhythm on "A Species Out of Control" is sooooooo good!
Love this album. Full of subtle colors and textures.
Thumbs up!

Saw Tale Of Us drop Ikizukuri at a packed show w/ Joy O last night and it was one of the most life-affirming moments I've experienced.

I don't think Whorl is as good as this, but damn are SMD criminally underrated. I get that they were kinda frowned on when they first emerged, but good god have they reinvented themselves over the years. Huge upswing

I think they got associated - rightly or wrongly - with a sort of 'hipster house' culture that ironically meant that quote-unquote purists shunned them for fear of being associated - God forbid - with a band that was too pop. Which is unfortunate because yeah, SMD fucking rule. I saw them not too long after ADSR was released and they just oozed quality, esp. their live show which recreated the album with almost entirely analog equipment, which was just mindblowing to see.

I read an interview after they released Temporary Pleasures saying how that they sorta purposely played up the pop aspect so they could reel everyone in then release nothing but bangin' house tunes afterwards. Which they've sorta more or less followed though on. New album is dope too.

Agreed, their live show amazes. When I saw them, I was fortunate enough to be at the front and I had a
close-up of their equipement. They were constantly busy tweaking and manipulating it. Whenever I read or
hear the idea that every producer "merely hits play", I think about SMD (......or The Chemical Brothers,
hehehe).

Whorl did not live fully to my expectations either, but I reckon it was a hard task because I still
think Unpatterns is one of the best LPs of 2012. Nonetheless I really enjoy it. And like Dev said
they now seem restless in breaking new ground and finding new sounds. Which is admirable, indeed.

Some tracks are killer on Whorl, especially 'Tangents' with its compelling synth riff. There are
several ambient tracks as well. The whole is not as consistent as Unpatterns (or ADSR for
that matter), but I believe it is their most experimental album yet.

Yeah I thoroughly enjoy everything they put out these days. Their Machine Love article on RA was great and showed their HW setup:

Yeah pretty much. You had your white-label take-no-shit super serious house, or you were Jack Beats. SMD kinda straddled the line between being an ultra-serious outfit alongside just wanting to have fun. They pretty much got persecuted for it

unfairly so I'd say, they're hella talented and furthermore I see absolutely no issue with bands wanting to have a little fun. there exists a middle-ground to everything, but I believe a lot of people find it "offensive" when people don't adhere to either extremes. which is silly. so silly.

And as far as I'm concerned, I still thoroughly enjoy their first two albums, especially ADSR. They
always strove to make pop gold instead of the "club fodder" some people might have expected and
misunderstood from them. Heck, I will never grow tired of 'Hustler' or 'Audacity Of Huge'. They're just too
well crafted.

Never was too much into their first two, though ADSR had a few great tracks.

They are playing the entirety of the new album on tour I believe, or at least in the LA show. def trying to go, every time I've seen them has been hot fire.

Delicacies is still one of my favorite electronic albums of the past few years
