I love your almost fanboyish enthusiasm. It inspired me to listen to this again. (Note: "almost.")

My problem with this album isn't that there are too many things happening simultaneously, it's that there are so many different ideas strung together in quick succession. Not that that's a bad thing, but if I do anything else while listening, it all just blends together.

Take And Then There Was Silence. Holy crayon, there are a lot of ideas in that song. The melody is always changing.

One complaint: does anyone else find Blind Guardian's high-pitched guitars to be annoying? It's always squealing up and down, and while the notes it plays are fine, the sound of it is just grating (in my humble, and probably quite unpopular, opinion).

I just listened to this again for the first time in a while. My GOD it's amazing. So epic and powerful, immense in scale and execution, and yet it never feels emotionally detached.

My God, I love this album.

This is the 3rd Blind Guardian album I've listened to. I can honestly say It's the greatest also.
I agree with almost everything you said too. Except that I was amazed by this album the first time. It didn't need to grow on me at all. But if it does that I can only start to love it even more than I already do.

I have to say this album is amazing. How can you not love overproduced, bombastic, layered, epic shit? Besides, Hansi and co are more inspired on this record then the next two, despite how solid At the Edge of Time is.

This album is a masterpiece, hands down, but And Then There Was Silence still has not grown on me yet, there's just so much going on in that song.
