"An aggressive Blind Guardian album again would be incredible! Though I greatly enjoy epics like Wheel of Time, I feel they succeeded with Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations From the Other Side, and The Last Candle. I wish they could come up with a varied speed-metal album again in the likes of this, or the three first albums of their career."

At the Edge Of Time came with a dvd detailing the making of the album, and the band said they want to do something with a full orchestra; I doubt the speed metal will return just yet.

The speed metal is boring for this band anyways.

I've not made it back far enough yet to get to hear much of it, I DO really like their style now however.

As much as I would enjoy a modern Speed Metal album by them, I have to agree with your perspectives. Very rarely bands return to their old style when they take on a new one (Iron Maiden with Progressive Metal, Iced Earth with Power Metal, for instance).

Well that might be true, but a song resembling their agressive speed metal era would be cool.

Another example of a band changing its style is Symphony X in Paradise Lost and Iconoclast. In those albums they sound heavier than in most of their earlier work.

In an odd example of that, I think Paradise Lost is their best album that I heard out of the few I listened by them; when it is usually the opposite for most people.

I can't decide between Pradise Lost and Divine Wings of Tragedy.

Divine Wings never really stood out for me; I like some of the stuff on it, but I feel like half of the album is really mediocre. Of course, that's just me; I'm not really into Progressive Metal unless the songs are heavily mixed with another genre (such as Thrash with Dante's Inferno by Iced Earth, or Power Metal with And Then There Was Silence).
