The review is well written by I disagree completely with it. This is really a great album, a very strong 4 for me.

Album isn't very good and the review is much worse. Neg'd to hell and back.

finally got round to buying this. came out around the same time as pg.lost so i pretty much dismissed it. i actually think this is really good. very samey though. it's basically explosions in the sky but rocked up. has the intricate, intertwining guitar lines that i love from explosions in the sky. and the reverb and atmosphere is stunning. i like how it flows. probably better than pg.lost's album really.

This thread is so stupid.

Sometimes I wonder if too much importance is put on pushing the envelope with every album / band / whatever. Obviously it's important, but sometimes good music is just good music, regardless of its deviation from what came before. This is a good example of that.

"c'mon people it's nothing more than a decent post rock record that you probably won't remember a year after"
Wrong, it's been 2 years now and it's still going strong.

Cut em down and concrete the place, shut em right up.

Same here, really looking forward to what they're going to create. If the new album art is any sort of indication of their sound, I'd say it'll have even more of a bleak and desolate atmosphere than this.
Also, just to add to the discussion from when this album came out, I'm still thoroughly enjoying it some four years later. I guess this just has that special something for me, always puts me in the mood the album cover evokes.

I love how everyone exalts EITS/GIAA/Mogwai and says they are the best in the genre while they're easily the most trite, formulaic, predictable and uncompelling in the whole game. They're the most simple and accessible - yes. But it has nothing to do with their aesthetical value.

I don't know how emotionally inept a person should be to decide that it's a good idea to critically treat the music like this in terms of its "newness"/"freshness".
It's as if you'd have complained somewhere in 1920's about Stravinsky: "Damn, he writes symphonies, operas and string quartets, the same violins everywhere, god damn that stagnant boring piece of shit for pretentious snobs".
With that being said, I don't equate post-rock to the classical music in terms of aesthetical value, but rather qualitatively and methodologically, in terms of purpose and creative approach.
It's the same if I'd have taken "Selected ambient works" and given it a neg because it doesn't possess enough dramatic tension. What will be next? I imagine any album of any genre in a couple of decades and these "critics" be like: "Oh no, there are sounds once again, you know, sounds! How long can they produce sounds? I want something new!"

This is decent. Kinda by the numbers post-rock/metal though. Nothing really stands out to me.
