I am desperately trying to avoid this after what I heard on their EP.

Hey, man. I thought the EP sucked too. Don't let that dissuade you.
I've never seen such a strong case for the importance of mixing. The difference between the album tracks and the EP versions is unreal. The verses on "Believe Me" are the best example, imo. I hated that song before. At lot of times, it sounded like Russ was just completely over-the-top screaming, but now the guitars have much more presence, the drums are more powerful and it all comes together and works perfectly. His vocals are so intense, yet incredibly melodic at the same time. Amazing stuff.

I agree that the album corrected many of the flaws with the EP, including the bad mix. The production on Omerta isn't perfect, but it's light years beyond the EP. I mean, Orlando sounded like he was playing through a frickin' telephone.

Doesn't sound like Avenged Sevenfold to me...
I like the first three songs and Believe Me. The rest however is almost on the Nickelback level (yeah that bad).

Not that I was expecting the progressive masterpiece that I know Allen and Portnoy are capable of, but this is really bland and generic for a hardrock/classic metal album.

Oh that cover, oh that lettering. I fear what be hidden beyond.
Digging: Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork

Looks to me like Portnoy wants his own Avenged Sevenfold.
