There are some good riffs on this, but fuck me if this isn't self-indulgent half of the time.

Well, I mean it's probably incredibly self-indulgent 100% of the time but I don't see that as a bad thing. These guys know how to be stupidly technical whilst still writing awesome catchy riffs and their song structures complement the riffs perfectly. They're one of the very few tech bands that know what they're doing.

This, Noctambulant and Cabinet are all very different albums and are all perfect in their own ways.

Agree. All very different. Although Noctambulant is hands down the best Technical Death album ever, and will likely never be matched. The one thing that keeps this from being a 5 for me is the lack of Karlsson solos.

If you were familiar with Bryssling's song writing process, you wouldn't think this. Perfectionism doesn't begin to explain it.

I'm not really interested in reading a dissertation that attempts to justify the act of masturbation tbh.

It's tech as fuck but I wouldn't call this musical masterbation, better crafted then that.

Then don't study 80% of classical music, lol. Composers like Bach and Mozart made a living off of constantly pushing the boundaries of technicality in music.

"Going back over this thread from the beginning. The amount of people who complain that this is structureless or is just wank really mustn't have listened to it since this thing is chock full of riffs that are resolute and fully developed throughout each song's very understandable structure (as mind-bending as it may seem at first)." (2)

Plus this isn't generic at all, once you get into it, it doesn't compare to any other tdm, it makes way more sense in terms of classical music.

"Noctambulant is WAY better".

Noctambulant is great but has its weaker moments. Each song on Incurso is flawless.

Not to the extent of this. I will admit that I am a much greater fan of minimalism, romanticism and sonorism than the traditional classical styles, but I can still appreciate the works from those periods, as well as the immense impact they had upon the musical landscape. Classical composers and this pile of garbage should never be together in the same sentence, let alone topic of discussion.

Now excuse me whilst I wash the grease of this discussion off my body.
