Apart from the two singles and Blue Jeans this is pretty much all filler

Really good review Adam. You crystallized it in a way that even a bloke completely unfamiliar with Lana Del Rey (and the hype surrounding her) would understand. That being said, this review reminds me of the Watch The Throne and Neighbourhoods reviews that you wrote, which, while compelling writing, ultimately aimed for a thesis that I ended up disagreeing with (I also enjoyed both albums thoroughly).

Maybe I'll try this out anyway - despite my better judgment lol.

She's trying to hard too be an Indie artist. This album is bland and poorly executed. Bad taste on her behalf.

Curse.

there are too many things about lana('s music) that i don't agree with on such a fundamental level that it seems impossible for me to ever reach a level of enjoyment beyond acknowledgement of its musicality

so that's that

actually could you expand on this? like i'm sure it's a perfectly legit point but i'm not totally sure what you're saying

Kreayshawn is my girl. Gucci Gucci is amazing and her other newer song is pretty good. Her Kitty x Choppas mixtape is really meh and Bumpin Bumpin is one of the worst songs ever.

actually could you expand on this?

personally she tries to hard to fit herself into a desired aesthetic (being the bastardized white-picket-50s nostalgia) that is not all that exciting--or really worth remembering.

We get the smokey lounge, the north-east boating, blue-collar coal-miner americana she's trying to hit at but it all seems so fucking fake: mostly because she tries too hard to hit cues as opposed to actually living lives through her music.

I'm not sure if this is what Kir or Conrad think, obviously this is just my opinion : X

for the record: I didn't really have any issues with her SNL performance, I just listen to her music and it feels she's lying to me and not even attempting to dress it up.

not to paraphrase downer's last paragraph but i just struggle to accept that a woman who self-directed a music video of herself pouting for 4 minutes and then made a point of complaining that people talked about her looks is any less vapid, shallow, put on and manufactured than the pop artists we regularly complain about

everything i get from her music is vain and vacant

but to me her music is about vacancy and vanity

i mean i'm not necessarily saying it's a deliberate artistic decision but when i listen to her i hear a sort of emptiness in both what she's singing and the way she's singing it so it comes together for me.
