But they were Metallica singles with interesting high-budget videos...I suppose it's impossible to really know for sure

Fixxxer definitely can. Certainly better than House Jack Built imo

You know what? Fixxxer is a great song. I'll take Jack, though.

I still contend that the album has good moments. Bad Seed is alright, Carpe Diem is kinda nice, Attitude has a fun riff.....

A guy who reviews albums in youtube said that if metallica combined the fist part of load plus the outlaw torn and the second part of reload it could have been an awesome record.

Fixxxer is to the outlaw torn what the unforgiven 2 was to the unforgiven. Almost the same structure and same length, although different subjects in the lyrics.

Well this is a secret that I'll share with you but only in this thread: when I started listening to metallica, I used to ignore the kill em all - justice period and I only listened from the black album to st. anger.

I started with And Justice for All and then worked my way back to the rest of their thrash discog (this was around 2011). By as blown away as I was with their first four albums, that didn't deter me from enjoying this album or loving Death Magnetic

I heard Enter Sandman a lot, but when I saw the Until it Sleeps music video on mtv I bought Load. That was my true introduction to Metallica. Must have been 8 or 9, can't remember what year it came out.

Friend new I loved Load, bought me Ride the Lightning for my birthday because that was the only other CD in stock. Those remain my 2 favorite Metallica albums.

Also, S/T is more consistent, but I'll take Load 100 times out of 100.

Quite different albums lol. Haven't you listened to master of puppets, kill em all and the rest of their albums since then ? Because if you like ride the lightning, the first and third albums are much better than this one.

I found a funny meme where in every album metallica released there was some criticism about how they sell out no matter how stupid it was it goes like:

- Kill em all: they got a recording contract

- Ride the lightining: they recorded a ballad

- Master of puppets: they became progressive

- And justice for all: there was no Cliff.

- Self titled: they became too commercial.

- Load: they became a blues influenced band.

- Re-load: they tried to mimick bands like alice in chains

- St. anger: the snare sound and no guitar solos

- Death magnetic: The loudness war and it's not technical enough compared to master or justice.

- Lulu: Lou Reed

- Hardwired: the second album minus spit out the bone.
