Still have no idea what to make of this album.

I listened to "Spineless" and was greeted by a whole lot of "what the fuck am I listening to?"

The thing about Periphery is that's it's more random wanking though I still like them just not as much as these guys.
This has quite a bit of jazz harmony even in the heavier sections and has some structure with the solos unlike Periphery.

Yea this may not appeal to a lot of people since it has core influences with some jazz harmony and "djent" and not many like all three genres. If someone isn't really familiar with the approaches to the respective genres especially in jazz and it's harmony or a person simply doesn't like one or more of the listed genres it may be hard to enjoy (I did enjoy this even though I don't really like core).

Not saying this is a 'masterpiece' because some parts do get bland and probably could of been written better.

It's understandable if some don't really like it.
Everyone has different tastes and preferences.
Also, the odd mix of styles may turn off quite a few people.

Lost in our escape is great. the vocals will turn off a lot of people, that and they sound EXACTLY like Periphery at points.

Just jammed to this for the first time. Holy shit is this lengthy. Too overbearing, and the
transitions between DJUN DJU DJOIN and jazz sound awful, it's too all over the place and most of the
songs seem very unstructured. I'll try again later but man, i thought i was in for a treat after so
much acclaim for these guys. Probably gets better, but it's hard to get a good first impression on
this.

BUT, Chris is a great singer.

I wouldn't say he's a great singer man...

The guitarist is fantastic but yeah the songs definitely fail to engage.

I like his input on this. I didn't mind his stuff with Periphery though, as far as i recall.

Yeah definitely, their length doesn't help the slightest bit.
