this band has always underwhelmed me but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this album. I almost never listen to it anymore though.

The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is amazing but the rest of EITS's discog ranges from meh to really meh

I agree.

"It's just hard to find an original post rock band that doesn't try to copy EitS or Mogwai."
This can apply to post-metal and post-punk as well

How Strange, Innocence is my favorite of theirs; it's really open and majestic sounding. I love Explosions In The Sky, and though I genuinely understand why people think this album is boring, I whole-heartedly disagree. Few other records this year have captured anything like the feeling contained on this one.

I completely disagree with you. Take Isis, Neurosis, Rosetta, Cult of Luna, The Waters Deep Here, and The Mire, for example. They sound completely different from each other. Each band has their own feel and atmosphere.

"Each band has their own feel and atmosphere. "
The unfortnuate thing here is that post-rock bands are totally capable of having their own feel and atmosphere, but some just choose to be EitS rip-offs instead. Now that I mention it though, there are a fair amount of Isis and Cult of Luna rip-offs, too.

True, very true. But aside from those bands, there are a fair amount of post-punk and post-metal bands that rip off each other all the time, whether it's intentional or not.

Well, tbh, I could find you 50 original post rock bands, as well as 50 original post-metal bands. Ripoffs happen in every genre. The problem here is that all the ripoffs sound like EitS which aren't good in the first place.

Ah, yeah, I see what you mean. That's true.

the only thing post-metal and post-punk have in common is a prefix. they're not comparable or
equatable

I'm not comparing them, jefflebowski

Cue staff review of Drake higher than this.

I honestly don't know why some people are saying EitS were never good. I mean, come on, their first two albums are solid as hell.
|
| |
hell, everything of theirs is "solid as hell"
