i dont have a personal favourite of this album or any rage album there are all amazing except for beautiful world, this could also be described as one of the most revolutionary albums of its time, rage's sound compared to a lot of early 90's rock is way off especially compared to stuff like nirvana guns n roses and soundgarden ah a breath of fresh air! well i liked soundgarden but they were far to many grunge bands around at that stage even though guns n roses arent grunge they were several heavy metal bands around then 5/5 for the album and a good review

I guess I'll just be the first person to not like them then. I can see that they're very talented and that it's done very well, I like it better than basically everything else I've heard with rapped vocals but it still doesn't really appeal to me.

The thing with De La Rocha is that you can really feel that he knows what he's talking cuz his lyrcis and performance are so full of emotion, unlike certain other rap-metal bands, cough, Linkin Park etc, cough.
Were they the first rap-metal band?

Do Faith No More count? It wasn't really rap as such, but bit's of it were getting there. Otherwise I think they probably were, and they remain unbeaten I think. I had this on earlier, and I agree that Take The Power Back has an amazing solo. I'd never really noticed it before.

I've got this one ripped on the computer now, and it's still awesome. "Take the Power Back" sounds almost like a Primus song with all that funkiness in the beginning, and "Freedom" is also a big highlight.

There's cases to be made for both Beastie Boys (sampled Led Zeppelin and Free, did songs with Kerry King) and Public Enemy (sampled Slayer and did a song with Anthrax).

Rage Against the Machine was porbably the first bona-fide rap metal album, though - meaning that everybody else had only done it in individual songs, rather than stretching it to a full album.

Take The Power Back is my favourite song on the album, without a doubt.

Freedom a weak closing song? you what.

It's generally seen that the collaboration between Public Enemy and Anthrax was the beginning or rap metal.

I thought "Settle For Nothing" was the weakest track. Sure it's got a nice bass line and gutiar solo, but it kind of kill the flow and seems misplaced. Great review.

I still can't believe breadman doesn't think Freedom is such a great closing song. It's one of the album's highlights in most people's minds.

Come on, I bowed to popular opinion in my Sublime review and gave "April 29, 1992" a better rating, surely you can do the same with a much better example of an album's highlight?
