you don't see the lists? every time anyone makes a list of their favorite rappers/emcees/whateverthefuck they get flamed into oblivion by the userbase. like when people do that w/ metal I fuck w/ them sometimes but I've seen way worse w/ hip hop lists and dissenting opinions in threads etc

hip hop is competitive in nature, alot of people translate the game into their tastes in rap if that makes any sense

i mean tbh im green af with rap and might be talkin out my ass but thats always been my perception of it. rappers have beef and brag like crazy, and a lot of people listen to rap to peacock their status or something. its part of the culture. i'm not hating though

Also can agree with what SpaceMan is saying too, I'd go as far as to say the majority of hip hop fans in general are like that to some extent, but I could say the same for the majority of metal fans tbh.

Yeah I guess, but I am the furthest thing from an elitist and I've heard some super obscure not known shit. Maybe it's just an attitude idk lol.

I could see why I was ragged on in the beginning, I was a 15 year old kid that knew absolutely nothing hahaha. I've come a long way.

no I mean I get that space and I'm not faulting you for your interpretation of what happens. it actually makes sense and I guess that's maybe one thing that never really clicked w/ me w/ how hip hop culture operates if that's true, which it probably is. I get the drive to be the best and the hunger and the adversarial nature of the art and whatnot but that aspect of the culture just doesn't sit well with me. I mean don't get me wrong there's some hip hop I've heard that's amazing (YES BESIDES EMINEM) and I love it. but that adversarial ethos of hip hop just doesn't click w/ me. it shares a lot of elements w/ hyper masculinity and it just hasn't pulled me into the genre.

like with hip hop/rap (in this line of thinking), if they're one with this ethos, people will just downright flame someone for thinking someone is better than someone else or liking them more. that's dumb imo. I consider myself a metalhead and yeah I give people shit for their opinions sometimes but I think it's done at least w/ the understanding that it's all in good fun. I respect other peoples' opinions about shit. I genuinely don't get that vibe when people are talking about who's better than who with hip hop. it's dumb. and that's definitely at least one thing that hasn't made me want to become part of the hip hop fanbase here very badly. but like I said, everyone operates differently and I guess if you thrive on that kind of thing, more power to you.

yeah ford i feel that hard. its just not your thing and thats super okay, cause think of all the people who see the "hail satan 666" culture and think that shit is horrific. its all about what suits you. honestly hyper-masculinity in rap is what attracts a lot of ppl, guys like to be competitive in nature and i know a lot of chicks who listen to that shit because they like oggling at that masculinity and arent ashamed to admit that. music is cool cause theres something for everyone especially in an age where its so much easier to produce and release music.
